Games With Education

Games are meant to be fun, but can they be educational?  Yes they can; there are so many games that provide education out on the market.  From Monopoly to Chess to new video games, they are out there.  The new video games are amazing.  Most of them are geared towards children 5yrs and younger.  They specialize in helping learn to count, to distinguish colors, and to learn their ABC's.  They also offer helpful tools for learning how to read.  Now there are also board games that are educational games.  

* Monopoly teaches math skills by having to add and subtract money.

* Scrabble teaches vocabulary and spelling.

* Boggle also teaches correct spelling and good vocabulary skills.

Although, these new games offer a lot of education, board games are still the best form of education.  When played together with as a family, the child learns so much more than just math and spelling.  These are important yes, but what about teaching children about the value of family.  Sitting down and taking the time to play a board game with a child shows them that they are special and worth taking a timeout for.  

Any type of educational game is great.  As long as children are having fun with the game, they learn much easier.  They learn when they didn't even know that they were being educated; they just knew that they were having fun.  So when looking for games for children, don't go for the violent, how many guys can you shoot games, look for educational games, the games that will actually help them in the long run.
